I am very passionate about my platform which is all about Volunteerism in Youth. I would like to inspire and help youth realize all of the great benefits of volunteering and how important it is to get involved in your community!
I chose this subject because it has personally changed my life in so many ways. I’ve had the opportunity to learn and volunteer for so many organizations & charities. It is so hard to just chose one topic to voice my opinion about, however by volunteering you can be raising awareness/funds for cancer, bullying awareness, mental health awareness, the heart & stroke foundation and the list goes on! I believe that if teens volunteer, they will become more aware of issues in and around their community which will lead to finding solutions. Volunteering helps create relationships, opens up job opportunities, improves your communication skills, makes you feel proud, and you learn so much about yourself, your community & organizations. Being involved in events/ fundraisers while your young will help you develop as a person and create views on the world.
If I were to become Miss Teenage Canada I would like to promote volunteerism in youth by speaking to schools all over the country about getting involved with their community and how they can make a difference! It is my dream to travel across Canada so why not inspire others along my journey?
I would also like to create an optional credited course available to high school students which would be all about project management. Project management is the process and activity of planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling resources, procedures and protocols to achieve specific goals in scientific or daily problems. The credit would require a minimum of 30 volunteer hours. The student would have experience volunteering and would have his/her own personal views on issues that affect their community. During the course they would learn all about the importance volunteerism, how to organize your own fundraiser, team work, how to motivate others, time management, how to communicate with others, and the students would be educated on societal/scientific/ daily problems and ways to find a solution. At the end of the course each student would have to organize their very own fundraiser for a charity of their choice. I believe that every teen would benefit from this course since they would be engaged with their community, have a chance to show leadership and learn so many amazing life skills! If I were to be the next Miss Teenage Canada I would have a voice that would be heard and the opportunity to make a difference!
